Every Vehicle Owner Should Carry Original Documents – Police Commissioner Dr Harsha

Mangaluru: “Vehicle owners should carry original documents while driving or riding. Duplicate copies of the documents will not be considered during checking or for other reasons”, said police commissioner Dr Harsha during the phone-in programme held at his office here on November 29.

Dr Harsha said, responding to a caller when he complained about the Traffic police asking for original documents. The caller also said that during vehicle checking if we provide duplicate documents of our vehicles the traffic police are still slapping fines. The police should give time to produce the original documents and said that during checking of vehicles they should accept the duplicate copies of the documents.

Dr Harsha said, “According to the Motor Vehicle Act, there is no provision for accepting duplicate documents. Every vehicle owner should carry original documents of their vehicle and the public should understand this.”

Another caller Kishore Kodialguthu said, “In ‘My beat my pride’ group, we get only general messages, instead we need to post awareness messages on the WhatsApp group which will help the General public. Dr Harsha replied saying, “We have 756 WhatsApp groups with 48000 members. We have a very good response to “My beat my pride”, people are cooperating well and have joined hands with the police”.

Another caller from Kadri said that near the Tejaswini Hospital vehicles are being parked on both sides of the road and people in that area are facing severe problems. Dr Harsha assured of taking action.

A resident of Padil said that after 8:30 pm, buses from State Bank to Padil via Bikkarnakatta refuse to take passengers and many people face problems. After 8:30 pm the buses do not go to Padil. Dr Harsha ordered the concerned officer to look into the matter.

Another caller said that Senior citizens find difficulty in boarding the bus as the footboards are too high.

Most of the calls were related to the parking problems and street vendors encroaching the footpath at the State bank and central market.

Dr Harsha said that the matter will be discussed with the commissioner of MCC because it is the duty of the MCC to vacate the street vendors. We will hold discussions to vacate the street vendors. To avoid Traffic violations we need to install CCTV cameras and discussions with the smart city authorities that have already been held last week. We have submitted a Memorandum to the smart city authorities as well. If the MCC consents we can use drones to monitor the traffic as well as traffic violations in the city.
