Exhibition, honouring and Rallies mark Library week celebration
Udupi: Book exhibition and honouring for Librarians marked the national library week celebrations held here on Friday, November 18 in the city.
The programme began with the state anthem, Nalini GI chief librarian city library welcomed the gathering. Pramod Madhwaraj district minister in charge inaugurated the honouring ceremony by lighting the lamp.
In his message, the minster underlined the importance of libraries in developing the overall personality of youngsters and urged students to utilize libraries to the fullest extent. Reading habit will immensely help in building self-confidence and shun inhibitions. The new high-tech library building will be constructed at a cost of Rs 5 crore at Ajjarkadu. The Udupi Urban development authority and Rajya Sabha MP Oscar Fernandes have assured Rs one crore grant for the new building. The remaining Rs 3 crore will be provided by the state government. Special provision will be made for the civil service coaching in the new building, he added.
Dr Sathish Kumar S Hosamani director Public Library department Bengaluru delivered the Introductory remarks. Library staff and superintendents were honoured on the occasion by Pramod Madhwaraj. Earlier Meenakshi Madhava Bannaje president of Udupi City Municipality inaugurated the book exhibition at the central library. Priyanka Mary Francis CEO Udupi Zzilla Panchayat inaugurated ‘Odinedege Namma Nade’ Jatha. The Jatha which started from the Udupi city municipal council, passing through Daina Circle, Chittranajan Circle, Service bus-stand culminated at the Board High school.
Dinakar Babu president Udupi Zilla Panchayat, Meenakshi Madhava Bannaje president of Udupi City Municipality, Narashimma Moorthy president UUDA and others were present.
