Extortion Threatening to Post Intimate Act of Man on Social Media, Case Filed

Mangaluru: Nowadays many have become the victims of online extortion or honeytraps. Recently the SP of Dakshina Kannada warned the people not to share any videos about a man and woman’s intimate act. But some habitual offenders have not heeded to the warnings.

In another case, 8 months ago a man has come in contact with a girl through a voice message. Their friendship grew and they both met in a lodge. When the girl met the man in the lodge she recorded the incident and her intimate act with the man.

After some days an unknown person called the man and demanded money. The caller also threatened to post the video of the man with the girl in the lodge. When the man asked the girl she said that her mobile had spoiled and the recording of her with the man were in the mobile. She had given the mobile for repair and during repair, the person had taken the video from her mobile.

The caller was using the video to extort money from the man. But when the man refused to pay the money, four persons had kidnapped him. They then took Rs 60,000 from his purse and his ATM card. Using his ATM card they also withdrew Rs 9000. The kidnappers also threatened the man and again took Rs 48000 from him.

The accused then posted the same video on social media and was threatening the man continuously to pay more.

A case has been registered in the Bantwal Town Police station under section 363, 323, 504, 392, 383, 506, 34 and 66E and 67A IT Act.
