Addressing the mediapersons DC Sasikanth Senthil said, “Those who are paying income tax such as doctors, lawyers, retired government officials and those who get more than Rs 10000 pension or Group D workers are not eligible for the scheme. To clarify any doubts or for more information, farmers can contact their village accountant. We have already informed the PDOs to enroll all the farmers for this scheme.”

DC Sasikanth Senthil further said, “The Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojna (PMFBY) is a weather-based insurance scheme. The scheme will reduce agricultural distress and farmer’s welfare without having to affect hefty hikes in the Minimum Support Prices (MSP) of agricultural products prices due to fluctuations induced risks. The PMFBY Scheme operates on the basis of ‘Area Approach’ i.e., Defined Areas for each notified crop for widespread calamities. Providing financial support to farmers suffering crop loss/damage due to unforeseen events. The scheme will Stabilize the income of farmers and will encourage them to adopt innovative and modern agricultural practises”.

Weather Based Crop Insurance Scheme (WBCIS)

Weather Based Crop Insurance Scheme aims to mitigate the hardships of the insured farmers against the financial loss owing to the anticipated crop loss resulting from adverse weather conditions relating to rainfall, temperature, wind, humidity etc. WBCIS uses weather parameters as “proxy” for crop yields in compensating the cultivators for the deemed crop losses. Payout structures are developed to the extent of losses deemed to have been suffered using the weather triggers. In Dakshina Kannada, the Oriental General Insurance Company will handle the WBCIS.

DC Sasikanth also said, “The property card will be delivered within 48 hours if all necessary documents are properly submitted. If there are any errors in the documents re-survey will be done and the card will be delivered within 10 days. Next week the website will be ready and people can upload the necessary documents in regard to the property card. Under UPOR from June 10 the property card has been made mandatory in 32 grams. There is a good response from the people, so far we have received 1,53,466 applications for the property card. Already 88031 documents related to the properties have been collected and 22206 property cards have been distributed. A meeting was held on June 18 during which builders, stakeholders and landowners were briefed on the importance of the property card. Now, those buying property or apartments should obtain the property card and others can obtain the card whenever they have the time. The UPOR card is not compulsory at present. I urge the people not to hurry to make their property card. We are trying our best to issue the property card to all the owners who have submitted their documents.”
