Father Muller Medical College Hosts FOGSI-IAGE EAGLE Project, Advancing Gynaecological Endoscopy Skills

Mangalore: The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Father Muller Medical College, in collaboration with FOGSI (Federation of Obstetrics and Gynecological Societies of India) and IAGE (Indian Association of Gynecological Endoscopists) successfully organized the EAGLE project at the Knowledge Centre Hall and Labor OT.

The EAGLE Project – Every Aspiring Gynaecologist Learns Endoscopy: Inspiring the Future of Gynaecological Endoscopy, a joint initiative of FOGSI and IAGE is transforming the landscape of gynaecological endoscopy in India. This initiative aims to inspire young gynaecologists to embrace endoscopy, ensuring that India shines on the global map for years to come. Through one-day workshops, this project focuses on providing postgraduate students and early-career gynaecologists with hands-on exposure to laparoscopy, live demonstrations, and expert guidance. The project was executed by the department of OBG, FMMC, with Dr. Deepa Kanagal, HOD the course coordinator, Dr.Sujaya V Rao -the college coordinator, and Dr.Chethana B- as the coordinator.

The event began with a Lecture series on the Basics of gynaecological endoscopy from 8 AM to 9 AM at the Knowledge Centre hall.

The Key topics included:

• Entry Technique in Abdomen-Dr.Chethana B

• Pelvic anatomy by laparoscopy-Dr. Ektha M Shetty

• Tissue dissection techniques- Dr. Joylene D’Almeida

• Principles of energy devices in laparoscopy- Dr.Vismaya Kaveri

• Fluid delivery and management system in hysteroscopy- Dr. Shannon Fernandes

• Principles of energy devices in Hysteroscopy- Dr.Venita Fernandes

The Inaugural Ceremony was led by MC, Dr. Nikitha James, who welcomed the gathering, followed by a soulful prayer song by the MBBS students. Rev. Fr Richard Aloysius Coelho, Director, FMCI and Dean Dr.Antony Sylvan D’Souza presided the event along with the 3 guest operating faculty- Dr.Subhash Mallya (Covener, FOGSI-IAGE EAGLE project), Dr. Rajesh Bhakta(Consultant, Roshni laparoscopy and fertility center, Udupi), Dr.Ravikanth G O-Professor, KVG medical college, Sullia).

In his presidential address, Rev. Fr highlighted the inevitability of medical advancements and the necessity of proactive steps to keep up with the latest developments. Following breakfast, all faculty and delegates proceeded to Labour OT for a live demonstration of surgeries.

An array of 11 surgeries (7 laparoscopy and 4 hysteroscopy) were performed by the operating faculty with a comprehensive demonstration of the various steps, tricks, and tips. The delegates had the opportunity to perform under their eminent guidance too. The anaesthesia team was led by Dr. Radesh Hegde, along with Dr. Vishma, Dr. Hazel, Dr. Narayana Kamath, and Dr. Pakhi Sharma. The OT nurses, technicians, and support staff added to the combined effort to make the workshop successful.

The delegates could practise their skills in the pelvi-trainers provided by Johnson & Johnson. The program culminated with an engaging quiz for the postgraduates by quiz master, Dr. Ektha M Shetty. Food for the day was sponsored by Torrent Pharma.

This workshop successfully provided a holistic learning experience for all attendees, reinforcing Father Muller Medical College’s commitment to advancing medical education and research in women’s health.
