FC Goa’s Andrade helps Portugal win Beach Soccer World Cup

Espinho (Portugal), July 21 (IANS) FC Goa goalkeeper Elinton Andrade has helped his country Portugal lift the FIFA Beach Soccer World trophy for the first time in its history.

Hosts Portugal defeated Tahiti 5-3 in the final here on Sunday. Andrade was one of the squad players of the victorious team and played a vital part in the triumph, starring in all his country’s matches.

He will appear for the Indian Super League (ISL) franchise in the upcoming second season of the tournament starting on October 3.

The Brazil-born shotstopper has earlier played for renowned clubs Flamengo, Fluminense and Marseille, reports goal.com on Tuesday.

He made 67 saves in six games and was also shortlisted for the Golden Glove, given to the best goalkeeper of the tournament, but lost out to Tahiti custodian Jonathan Torohia.

Andrade also made three assists and scored a goal in the tournament.
