First COVID-19 Positive Patient Discharged from Wenlock

Mangaluru: The first COVID-19 positive patient who was admitted to the Wenlock hospital was discharged on April 6.

A 22-year-old youth from Bhatkal had travelled from Dubai on March 19 and landed in Mangaluru International Airport. He was admitted to the Government Wenlock Hospital. His throat SWAB was sent for testing and on March 22 he was tested positive for COVID-19.

The youth was admitted in an isolation ward where he was being treated. On April 2 and 3 his throat SWAB was again sent for testing and both the reports were found to be negative. Based on the reports, the patient was discharged from the hospital. This is the first case that was reported in Mangaluru and the first patient to be cured of COVID-19.

The youth has already left the hospital and is on his way to his hometown Bhatkal. He will be kept separately for some days in his house. On discharge, the patient thanked the doctors, nurses, and the district administration for the special care and treatment given to him during his stay at the Wenlock hospital.

He further said, “As soon as I landed at the airport, the district administration brought me to the Wenlock hospital for the test. If I would have gone to my home town, my entire family would have suffered. I appreciate the timely intervention of the district administration. One should not lose hope. People are afraid of COVID-19 but social distancing will surely prevent the virus from spreading. Stay Home Stay Safe”.
