Rio de Janeiro, May 21 (IANS) Four-time Brazilian Serie A champions Fluminense have parted ways with coach Ricardo Drubscky less than two months after he took on the role.

Wednesday’s announcement followed Fluminense’s 1-4 loss to Atletico Mineiro in Brazil’s top flight on Sunday, reports Xinhua.

“Drubscky met with (Fluminense) executive director Fernando Simone in the morning and both agreed to terminate (the contract),” Fluminense said on their official website.

In a separate statement, Drubscky apologised to fans for not achieving the results he had hoped for.

“Despite the fact two months is very little time, I believed we would achieve positive results,” the 55-year-old said.

Drubscky took over from Cristovao Borges on March 23 and led the Rio de Janeiro club to five wins and three losses from eight matches.

Fluminense are currently 11th in Brazil’s 20-team Serie A standings with a win and a loss from two matches.

Former Fluminense midfielder Marcao has been appointed the club’s interim coach.
