FMMC holds Guest Lecture by Dr Derek Lobo, Former WHO Consultant for Leprosy

Mangaluru: Department of Dermatology conducted Guest Lecture in Father Muller Medical College, Mangalore on 6th Feb 2020 at Conference Hall. This program was organized to commemorate Anti leprosy day.

The programme started with the inauguration, Dr Sukumar D, Prof & HOD welcomed the gathering. Fr Ajith B Menezes – Administrator FMMC delivered the presidential address. Dr Jayaprakash Alva Dean FMMC, Guest speaker Dr Derek Lobo also graced the Dais during the inaugural function. Dr Nanda Kishore B introduced the speaker to the audience. Guest speaker Dr Derek Lobo was felicitated for his contribution to the field of Leprosy. Inaugural function concluded with vote of thanks by Dr Ganesh Kamath H.

Dr Derek Lobo, retired in April 2007, from the United Nations-World Health Organisation (WHO) after a highly successful professional career with WHO of Thirteen (13) Years and prior to that with two International NGOs – Emmaus-Switzerland and German TB/Leprosy Association for twenty-four (24) years. His career spanning 37 years was dedicated to the control and elimination of poverty-related diseases such as Leprosy, TB, Malaria, Filaria and other neglected tropical diseases. He also worked as Director of GREMALTES Referral Hospital & Leprosy Centre in Chennai: 1984-1994.

He delivered a lecture on “Skewed Health Policies of India: Health Indicators – where does India Stand?, Burden of Communicable Diseases – where does India stand? and Leprosy Elimination – Where does India stand?”

The guest lecture was well attended by staff, postgraduates of medical and nursing departments of Father Muller Medical College Hospital.
