FMMC Holds ‘Undergraduate Surgery Quiz 2017’ for MBBS students

Mangaluru: The Department of General Surgery, Father Muller Medical College, conducted “Undergraduate Surgery Quiz 2017” for final year MBBS students and Interns on October 28. Students from six Medical Colleges in and around Mangalore consisting of 35 teams have participated in the quiz.

The event was half a day program and began with inaugural function with lighting the lamp by the dignitaries on the dais. The function was presided over by Fr Richard Aloysius Coelho, Director, Father Muller Charitable Institutions. The welcome address was given by Dr Leo Francis Tauro, Professor & HOD, Department of Surgery. Dr Jayaprakash Alva, Dean, Father Muller Medical College spoke on the importance of quizzing. Presidential address was delivered by the Director, Fr Richard Aloysius Coelho. The vote of thanks was delivered by Dr Elroy Saldanha, Assistant Professor, Department of Surgery.

The quiz consisted of a preliminary selection round followed by a final quiz of 6 rounds with the top 5 teams. The final quiz consisted of six rounds which included general round, spotters / identify the surgical condition, buzzer round on pioneers of surgery, buzzer round on synonyms in surgery, surgical aphorisms – Pictionary round and rapid fire round. The quizmaster was Dr Elroy Saldanha assisted by Dr Reshmina D’Souza. The first prize won by Nisha Mathias and Suvidha Kamath, Kasturba Medical College, Mangalore. The Second prize won by Sandhya Rao and Swathi S., Father Muller Medical College. Third prize won by Karthik Sadanand and Akshay, K S Hegde Medical Academy, Deralakatte. “Wizards of grey matter” the Best Team Name prize won by Shahab Qadir and Vanessa Fernandes from Yenepoya Medical College, Mangalore.

The Prizes were distributed by Dr Leo Francis Tauro, HOD, Department of General Surgery and Dr Shubha N Rao, Professor. Overall the programme was a grand success and well appreciated by the participants.
