Gauri Lankesh murder: State Govt announces Rs 10 lakh reward for information

Bengaluru (IT): The Karnataka government today announced a reward of Rs 10 lakh to anyone who was willing to share crucial information relating to the cold-booded murder of senior journalist-cum-activist Gauri Lankesh.

The Siddaramaiah government in the state has already formed a special investigative team (SIT) to hunt the perpetrators of the ghastly crime.

Karnataka Home Minister Ramalinga Reddy said: “The Chief Minister held a review meeting with the officials of the SIT and the probe is moving in the right direction. Culprits will be arrested at the earliest. We are in the process of collecting evidence. We have announced a reward of Rs 10 lakh to anyone willing to come forward with vital information.”

The 21-member SIT is headed by Inspector General of Police BK Singh. The SIT has asked the public to share any information which they feel would help in solving the murder case.

An official release issued by the police appeals to the general public to call the number 09480800202 or send an email to sit.glankesh@ksp.gov.in with relevant information.

Gauri Lankesh, the editor of a weekly Gauri Lankesh Patrike, was shot dead by unknown assailants on Tuesday evening in Bengaluru while entering her house. The police have retrieved the CCTV footage.

Even as Gauri Lankesh is running towards her home, a person wearing helmet is seen shooting at the 55-year-old defenceless woman.
