Golfer Neha triumphs at Tollygunge

Kolkata, Feb 13 (IANS) Kolkata’s Neha Tripathi carded 1 over 71 in the final round to win the Rs.6 lakh fourth leg of the Hero Women’s Professional Golf Tour at the Tollygunge Club here.

Amateur Tvesa Malik finished with a total score of 214 to take second position followed by Smriti Mehra at 217.

Neha carded two bogeys on the fifth and ninth holes along with a birdie on the seventh. She added three more birdies on the 13th, 15th and 17th while dropping shots on the 12th, 14th and 18th to finish the round with 211 after 54 holes. This is Neha’s second victory in as many weeks.

Overnight joint leader Tvesa could not sustain her second round momentum and carded 4 over 74 to finish second. She carded two bogeys on the third and eighth along with a birdie on the seventh in her front-nine. She added another birdie on the 10th but bogeys on the 11th and 12th along with a double on the 14th spoilt her chances of winning her second title on the tour.

Kolkata’s Smriti Mehra started impressively, playing a bogey-free front-nine with four birdies on the fourth, fifth, sixth and eighth. However, her back-nine was a different story as she carded three double bogeys on the 13th, 14th and 18th with just a lone birdie on the 15th to finish the round with a score of 1 over 71.

Pune’s Shweta Galande carded 4 over 74 in the final round. Her outing included five bogeys on the first, fifth, 11th, 12th and 16th with just one birdie on the 10th to finish with 220 after three rounds.

Jaipur’s Afshan Fatima carded 9 over 79 in the final round to take fifth. Her error prone round included six bogeys on the second, ninth, 12th, 13th, 16th and 18th along with a double on the fifth. She carded the lone birdie of her round on the fourth hole.

English woman Kiran Matharu carded 6 over 76 in the final round to take sixth place with 222, followed by Kapurthala’s Gursimar Badwal at 224 in seventh.

The tour now moves to Mumbai for the fifth leg to be played at the Bombay Presidency Golf Club from February 22 to 25.
