Graduates Should Contribute to Building an Atmanirbhar and Viksit Bharat: Dr. Prahlada Ramarao

16th Annual Convocation of Nitte (Deemed to be University)

Graduating students should utilise their knowledge, skills and abilities for the development of society and the nation and contribute towards building an Atmanirbhar Bharat (Self-Reliant India) and Viksit Bharat (Developed India), said Dr. Prahlada Ramarao, widely known as the father of the BrahMos missile.

Dr. Ramarao, who is the Pro-Chancellor of S-VYASA University, Bengaluru, and former Vice-Chancellor of the Defence Institute of Advanced Technology, Pune, was speaking at the 16th Annual Convocation of Nitte (Deemed to be University) held on Saturday. He presented degrees to engineering graduates of Nitte’s NMAM Institute of Technology.

He said a degree does not mark the end of education but the beginning of new responsibilities. Students must cultivate a commitment to continuous learning, research, ethical values, integrity and social responsibility to keep pace with rapidly changing technology and global challenges.

Education should not be limited to securing employment or achieving personal success but must be used for the welfare of society. Engineers should focus on developing safe, sustainable and affordable systems, while researchers should prioritise innovations that benefit society, he advised.

He also acknowledged the sacrifices, encouragement and support of parents and family members in the achievements of students. He appreciated the contributions of faculty members and staff in shaping the graduates.

Stating that India had made significant progress towards becoming a secure nation, he said the responsibility of the next generation was to strengthen energy security and contribute to the vision of an Atmanirbhar Bharat and Viksit Bharat. He urged the graduates to achieve success that would make their families, educational institution and the nation proud.

The convocation was presided over by Vishal Hegde, Chancellor of Nitte (Deemed to be University). Pro-Chancellor Prof. Dr. M. Shantharam Shetty, Vice-Chancellor Dr. M.S. Moodithaya, the Registrar and senior university officials were present.
