ICYM Kallianpur Deanery bags overall championship in ‘YOULYMPICS-2019’

Udupi: The ICYM Kallianpur Deanery won the overall championship in the Udupi Diocese level Sports meet “Youlympics-2019” organised by ICYM Udupi Diocese at the Milagres College Ground, Kallianpur on Sunday, October 7. The ICYM Kundapur Deanery and ICYM Udupi deanery won the second and third place respectively.

The Sports meet was inaugurated by Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo Bishop of Udupi Diocese in the morning with other dignitaries included Pramod Madhwaraj former minister of Karnataka, Dr Vincent Alva principal Milagres College Kallianpur, Jackson D’Souza international powerlifter, Fr Edwin D’Souza director and Dion D’Souza president of ICYM Udupi Diocese.

In his message, Bishop Dr Gerald said that Sports are an integral part of life. Health is more important than anything else. Sportsmen should also focus on education, sportsmen can only achieve in their sport if they work hard. He said winning is not important in the sports, it is important to participate. Sports events can help promote unity and integrity among competitors, he said.

Pramod Madhvaraj said that every participant in the sports should participate in a sports spirit. Sports will improve mental and physical health. He said that patience, tolerance and participation in sports is very important to be successful.

The Valedictory ceremony of Youlympics – 2019 was held on 6th October 2019 which was presided over by Fr Vincent Crasta, Secretary, Catholic Education Society of Udupi & Director – Commission for proclamation and evangelization.

Udupi diocese ICYM Director Rev Edwin D’Souza addressed the gathering and congratulated the youth for their active participation.

ICYM Diocese president Dion D’Souza welcomed the gathering. Secretary Fiona D’Souza delivered the vote of thanks.

Year of youth coordinator Derick Mascarenhas announced the champions of the sports meet. Royston Quadres compered the programme. The event concluded by singing the national anthem.
