Dr Madhusoodhan Nayak president of Udupi-Karavali Branch said that the proposed commission would be fatal for the medical sector in the country. Last year, we had postponed our Satyagraha scheduled on the same day last year, because of the favourable assurances received from the Government of India. The government does not have full control over MCI, it was planning to replace it with the NMC Bill, which is undemocratic and against the poor. The Centre should bring in amendments to the Medical Council of India Act, ensuring its autonomous nature. He also sought a ceiling on the compensation that could be awarded under the Consumers Protection Act in cases of complaints against doctors.

Later the protesters submitted a memorandum to Prime Minister Narendra Modi through the deputy commissioner.
