Inauguration of Allied Health Sciences Courses 2018-19 at Father Muller Institution

Mangaluru: 18 September 2018 was a great day for 140 students who had joined various courses in Allied Health Sciences for the year 2018-19 at Father Fuller Institutions, with a history of more than 22 years- and the courses are-Bachelor and Masters in Physiotherapy; B Sc and M SC in Medical Laboratory Technology; B Sc in Medical Imaging Technology; B Sc in Radiotherapy; and Masters in Hospital Administration- and these students should be proud that they are stepping into the family of Father Muller Medical College- a prestigious and renowned Medical Institution.

The programme began with a prayer through audiovisual, followed by welcome address by Dr J P Alva- the Dean of FMMC. The programme was inaugurated by lighting the lamp by chief guest, Dr Jayaprakash Shetty- Vice Dean at K S Hegde Medical Academy; along with other dignitaries on the dais, namely- Fr Richard Coelho- Director, FMCI; Fr Rudolph D’sa- Administrator, FMMCH; Fr Ajith Menezes- Administrator, FMMC; Dr J P Alva- Dean; Dr Padmaja Udayakumar- Vice Dean and Dr Sumanth D- the coordinator of the Medical Lab Technology.

Addressing the audience Dr Jayaprakash Shetty said, “You students are all lucky to get admitted to this prestigious medical institution. Parents should also be proud of admitting their children to this institution. Now that you have joined to pursue your career in your subject of interest, but think of being an achiever. Work hard, have perseverance and try hard to succeed. You have chosen the courses which will allow you to fly, and make you an achiever. Always think about yourself, and don’t compare yourselves with others. You are unique on your own. You need to emulate all the qualities and morals initiated by Father Muller Augustus and follow in his footsteps to be a good health care person. Best of luck in your career and endeavours”.

Fr Richard Coelho in his presidential address said, “You are all fortunate to be selected for these AHS courses at an Institution accredited with NAAC Á’ Grade-so welcome to the Mullerian family. Just like you can’t learn to ride a bicycle by reading a book, or learn swimming by gets tips on Internet – you need step on the bicycle and start learning to ride, or get into the water and learn swimming-similarly in AHS reading your books and browsing through the subjects is not enough, instead here at FMCI we encourage you to interact with patients and make you to serve them, thus gaining more practicals than theory. This institution is 137 years old, and our main aim is to serve the poor patients”.

“Keep our institution motto ‘Heal and Comfort’ alive and strong by being caring, dedicated and committed nurses. Also since our’s is a Catholic institution you need to follow our ethics, morals and ethos. Along with your studies, you should also practice the habit of praying, because prayer brings power. Our Chapel is a powerhouse- and prayers will give you the strength and courage to face your academic career. Make God your first choice, next your neighbour and then your self. Remember that as an AHS student you are a boon to yourself, your family, your neighbors and the community. Carry forward your profession with pride and dignity, and bring name and fame to our institution. Welcome to Father Muller family and enjoy your AHS career here” added Fr Coelho.

The vote of thanks was delivered by Dr Sumanth D, while the programme was compered by Marilyn Pereira- an Intern in B Sc Medical Lab Technology. The formal function ended with the Institution anthem, and after the tea break, a documentary on FMCI was screened. Reminiscences was done by a IInd year AHS student, followed by self-introduction of freshers. Dean Dr Jayaprakash Alva, then briefed about the college discipline and university regulations. Fr Ajith Menezes briefed about Campus Life and hostel Rules at the FMMC. The programme ended with an interactive session for Undergraduate students and parents with mentors. The whole day ended with an Ice Breaking session.
