Increase in COVID-19 Cases in DK, Temporary Hospital Need of the Hour – Ramanath Rai

Mangaluru: “Dakshina Kannada district, is reporting a large number of positive coronavirus cases. The district needs a temporary COVID hospital with a minimum of 1500 beds to accommodate the COVID patients if the positive cases keep on increasing. In Bengaluru, the BBMP has identified some areas that converted them into hospitals. The government should identify a place for a temporary COVID hospital in Dakshina Kannada”, opined former minister Ramanath Rai in a press meet held at the District Congress office here on July 10.

Addressing the mediapersons Ramanath Rai said, “The Wenlock hospital is converted into a COVID hospital, and the poor patients who were depending on the Wenlock hospital are not getting proper treatment. Many people who were coming for the treatment to the Wenlock hospital are now facing a lot of problems and many may have lost their lives without proper treatment. In Bengaluru, the BBMP has identified some places and converted them into hospitals. Let the government identify places in Mangaluru and convert them into temporary hospitals”.

Ramanath Rai further said, “The state government has failed to contain the coronavirus from spreading. The government is not committed to containing the virus. The state government and the district administration is not doing enough to tackle the present situation.”

Ramanath Rai also said, “We should stop the spread of this deadly virus with random tests in the district. The district administration had not provided enough essential supplies to the people in need during the lockdown, which has led to an increase in the positive cases. In Kerala state, only 27 people have died of COVID-19, but in Dakshina Kannada district alone 31 people have lost their lives. The government should follow the Kerala model in the fight against COVID-19. Due to the hike in fuel price, the price for essential commodities has also increased causing a lot of problems to the poor. The government should also see that there are a minimum of 10 ambulances in every taluk. “.

Former mayors Sashidhar Hegde and Kavitha Sanil, Corporators Abdul Rauf and Naveen D’Souza, Neerajpal, Santhosh Shetty, and others were also present.
