Subic Bay (Philippines), May 30 (IANS) The Indian challenge ended in the World Tour Philippines Open table tennis tournament here on Saturday.
Both Soumyajit Ghosh and Harmeet Desai bowed out in the pre-quarterfinals of the men’s singles. However, they put up a better show in doubles by reaching the semi-finals where they lost to Koriyoma Hokuto and Kenta Tozoe of Japan 11-7, 6-11, 12-14, 8-11. The Indian pair had beaten Jiang Tianyi and Ng pak Nam of Hong Kong in the quarter-finals.
In singles, Soumyajit went down fighting to Koriyama Hokuto of Japan. Koriyama won 11-7, 11-2, 9-11, 11-9, 9-11, 14-12 to enter the quarters. Wn Chih Chi of Chinese Taipei beat Harmeet Desai 11-6, 8-11, 11-6, 11-4, 12-10.
