Interstate Thief Arrested by Konaje Police

Mangaluru: A interstate thief who was wanted in several cases of looting and robbery, was arrested by the Konaje police here on December 16.

The accused has been identified as Abdul Saleem alias Saleem from Gerukatte Manjeshwar.

He is accused of being involved in a number of gold and vehicle thefts, and cases have been registered against him in various police stations in Karnataka and Kerala. He was involved in the car theft case in Kinya Ukkuda on September 3; on September 19 he had stolen 8 sacks of Arecanut from Kalkutta Manjanadi. On October 30, had stolen two motorbikes; in October was also involved in snatching an ankle gold chain from a child in Pathur Manjeshwar; on November 15, gold chain was snatched by him from a child’s neck, while she was playing in the compound in Pathur and in Manchi Bantwal had stolen large quantities of arecanut from a shop.

The arrest was made when the police were carrying out random check on vehicles at Mudipu. Abdul Saleem was on a Motorbike which he had stolen. While checking the police came to know that the bike was stolen and the number plate was changed. During the investigation, it was learnt that he was an accused in various theft cases in Kasargod, Manjeshwar, Bekal and Badiyadka. In one of the cases, he was convicted and a warrant was issued, since then he was absconding.

During interrogation, it was revealed that Saleem along with his associates were involved in theft cases in Konaje, Puttur and Bantwal Rural police station limits.

The police have seized gold chain, stolen bike, Omni Car and Arecanut all worth Rs 3 lakh. He was absconding from Majeshwar after facing six months jail term. The police are searching for the other accused who are associated with Saleem in various crimes.

Under the able direction of Police commissioner T R Suresh, DCP Law and Order Hanumantharaya, DCP Crime and Traffic Uma Prashanth and ACP Ram Rao, the operation was carried out by the Konaje police Inspector Ashok, PSI Venkatesh, Ashok, Jagannath, Nagaraj, Vijay, Parashuram and Raju.
