Janmashtami Celebrations at Sri Krishna Math on Sept 10 and 11 with Selected Devotees

Udupi: “Keeping in view the coronavirus pandemic, for the first time, the festival of ‘Janmashtami’ (birth of Lord Krishna) will be celebrated in a simple manner with all tradition at the Sri Krishna Math on September 10 and 11”, said Sri Eshapriya Theertha Swamiji of Paryaya Admar Math.

Addressing the press meet held at the Sri Krisha Math on August 31 Swamiji said, “For the first time, the festival of ‘Janmashtami’ (birth of Lord Krishna) will be celebrated with the presence of selected devotees. Keeping in view the coronavirus pandemic we have appealed to the deputy commissioner to provide the guidelines to celebrate Vittala Pindi or ‘Mosaru Kudike’ festival on September 11.

Swamiji further said, “The ritual ‘Arghyapradanam’ (offering of milk and holy water along with ‘Bilvapatra’) offered to the clay idol of Lord Sri Krishna inside the sanctum sanctorum of Sri Krishna Math will be held at midnight 12.16 am on Spetember10. The celebrations will be telecast live for the benefit of the devotees.

Swamiji also said, “Mosaru Kudike’ is also celebrated on the day of Vittal Pindi, where clay pots consisting of saffron water suspended at height is broken with wooden poles by folks dressed as shepherds. This year due to the coronavirus pandemic, the administration of the Math has asked to issue the guidelines for the devotees to participate in the celebrations”.

Lakhs of devotees from across the state used to throng the Sri Krishna Math, Udupi on the occasion of ‘Krishna Janmashtami’ every year.
