Mangaluru: Dakshina Kannada Working Journalists Union held a protest outside the Deputy Commissioner’s office here, on April 20.

Sharan Gurikar a crime reporter for Janasri News was allegedly beaten by police personnel when he was covering a protest. Journalist Irshad said, “Reporters report injustice and one of our fellow journalist from Janasri News in Bengaluru was covering a report of an attack on women. The policemen attacked him and his cameraman. Though we are proud of the police department, we condemn this act. Police personnel should actually protect us from any attacks and not attack us.”

Journalist Arif said, “We don’t exactly know why the policemen attacked the journalists. But I would like to know who gave them the right to attack a journalist. A thorough investigation should be done and the policemen involved should be suspended. In the future, such acts should not be repeated.”

A memorandum in this regard was submitted to the Chief Minister through the Deputy Commissioner.
