Kambala, Tulu Nadu Tableau to Feature in Mysuru Dasara This Year: CM D.K. Shivakumar
- Petition Filed in Supreme Court on SIR Issue
Mangaluru: Coastal Karnataka’s traditional buffalo race, Kambala, and a tableau showcasing Tulu Nadu will feature in this year’s Mysuru Dasara celebrations, Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar said on Thursday.
Shivakumar was speaking to the media at Mangaluru International Airport.
“Janardan Poojary had been inviting me for many years to visit the Kudroli temple during Dasara. Last year, I visited in the middle of the festivities. Dasara is celebrated on a grand scale there, and efforts are being made to bring different communities together. During Navaratri, prayers are offered to the Navadurga, reflecting our rich cultural traditions,” he said.
“We celebrate Dasara in Mysuru as the state festival on behalf of the government. The event will be held on October 21, Vijayadashami, and representatives from Tulu Nadu will also participate. Several new programmes have been introduced, and contingents from the armed forces will take part in the parade. This year, a new elephant will carry the golden howdah (Ambari) bearing the idol of Goddess Chamundeshwari,” he said.
“I had earlier stated that Kambala would be taken to Mysuru. Historical accounts indicate that buffaloes were brought to Mysuru during the Vijayanagara period for Dasara celebrations. This is your festival and the festival of the entire state,” Shivakumar added.
Petition Filed in Supreme Court on SIR Issue
Commenting on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, Shivakumar said a petition had been filed in the Supreme Court concerning SIR data.
“Today, we have filed a petition in the Supreme Court regarding SIR data. The right to vote is a right to life. We are all fighting to protect it, and we will continue this struggle,” he said.
He also responded to the controversy surrounding Congress leader Rahul Gandhi asking him to travel in a vehicle during a protest rally.
“Certain sections of the media and BJP leaders misrepresented Rahul Gandhi asking me to travel in the vehicle during the protest rally as a major insult. It was Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi who made me the Chief Minister of Karnataka. With their support, we are protecting the rights of voters in the state. BJP leaders are trying to distort the incident for political gain. Such minor issues should not be exploited for political advantage. Rahul Gandhi is a leader with humanity,” he said.
