Karnataka Bandh Evokes Poor Response in Udupi Dist, Protesters taken into Preventive Custody

Udupi: Farmers groups in Karnataka Bandh that called for a statewide bandh against the controversial agriculture-related legislations evoked a poor response across the Udupi district on Monday, September 28.

Protesters including district Congress vice president Prakyath Shetty, Councilor Ramesh Kanchan, CPI (M) leader Balakrishna Shetty and others who tried to stop the bus service in Udupi City bus stand were taken by the police into preventive custody and later released.

In most parts of the district, shops, trading outlets at APMC yards, petrol stations, government and private offices, banks, and other business establishments are functioning normally.

The Karnataka State Transport Corporation (KSRTC) and private inter-district, service and city buses operated as usual. The Udupi-Mangalore bus service, considered as the lifeline of Udupi district, was unaffected.

The district Police have deputed security forces at main points in the district as a precautionary measure.
