Kasaragod: Using Chilli Powder, Gang Loots Rs 15 Lakh from Bantwal Man in Train

Kasaragod: Jayatirtha (56), a resident of Shri Lakshmi temple locality in spraychilli mBantwal who works as a sales representative of a plastic manufacturing firm from Mangaluru, was robbed of Rs 15 lakh in the Kannur-Yesvantpur train on Tuesday night.

He had arrived in Kannur to collect the outstanding amounts from buyers for the plastic material supplied. After collecting the amounts, he had boarded the train at the Kannur station.

There was low occupancy in the compartment. Taking advantage of this, a gang of three entered the compartment and splashed chilli powder on his face and disarmed him.

They grabbed his bag and took to heels. A a fellow-passenger spotted the gang making away with the bag and alerted the police, the latter seemed busy with a case of injury. Haneef from Palayangadi had slipped and injured himself.

The cops who concentrated on rushing him to the hospital could not pay attention to the robbery case at once. Hence a golden chance was missed.

The Kannur police are investigating the case. People who were aware of the money being with him or those who followed his movement are said to behind the act.
