Kavisamaya Kavinamana – Poet Jayappa Honnali expresses his life experience

Moodbidri: “A poet must always create his poems through the experiences of his life. I’ve always filled my poetry with intellect alongside emotions. Regardless of that, a number of my precious poems have seen failure. No matter how much care I take in placing the words and lines in the perfect place, sometimes a little misplacement ruins the entire poem,” said Jayappa Honnali, as he shared his life experience as a poet at the Kavisamaya-Kavinamana conference at Alva’s Nudisiri 2017.

“A poet is a worthwhile individual only when his pride never comes in his way of creation. Personally, I have always placed the words and sentences in the position of utmost respect. I’ve never used words as easily as water, instead, I’ve made careful use of them as if they were ghee,” he added.

Jayappa Honnali then recited his poem ‘Kereya Dadadalli Kulithe’. The poem was composed by M S Giridhara and sung by Raveendra Prabhu at the same occasion. Barkur Markandeya presented a pictorial representation of the poem on the stage as it was beings sung.

Jayappa Honnali was born in Heerekur taluk of Haveri district in 1956. Though a physical education teacher by mainstream profession, he has followed his passion of poetry, modern vachanas and literature, and is also a regular columnist. He has authored numerous poems for which he has been awarded Kavanashree Award, Mysore district Rajyotsava Award, Kavyashree Mukuta Award, Kuvempu Sahitya Ratna Award, Basava Seva Award and more.
