Los Angeles, March 5 (IANS) Rapper Kendrick Lamar has unveiled a surprise new album made up of outtakes from his Grammy Award-winning album “To Pimp A Butterfly”.

The rapper, who took home five prizes from 11 nominations at the prestigious awards ceremony last month, has released the record on streaming services including Spotify, Google and Apple Music, reports mirror.co.uk.

None of the tracks are named.

It seems fans have LeBron James to thank for the release after the basketball star tweeted label boss Anthony Tiffith after Lamar’s Grammys showcase.

He wrote: “You have to release those untitled tracks ASAP! (sic)”

Tiffith promised to think about it, and later released a bizarre video in which he had what appeared to be a Darth Maul filter over his face as a track played in the background.

He wrote: “Yea muthaf***as King Kendrick returns tonite. Thank @kingjames for this.”

As well as a cameo from rapper Cee Lo Green – and an alleged production credit for Alicia Keys’s five-year-old son Egypt – the mini album features songs that will be familiar to some fans.

Lamar, who has played some of them live, previously admitted issues with deadlines or clearance of samples kept some of the songs from being released on the official album.
