Kenya’s Kiptom wins Lagos city marathon

Lagos, Feb 6 (IANS) Kenya’s Abraham Kiptom on Saturday emerged winner of the Access Bank Lagos City 42.1 km marathon race in two hours, 21 minutes and 20 seconds ahead of his compatriot Hosea Kipkembe.

Debebe Toise of Ethiopia came third behind the Kenyans. The Kenyan athletes received $50,000 and $40,000, respectively, while the Ethiopian got $30,000 for the third position, reports Xinhua.

The race began at the National Stadium Surulere Lagos at 7.10 a.m, local time, with no fewer than 20,000 marathoners.

The race went through the Ikorodu road to link Oworonsoki and passed through the third mainland bridge linking the Victoria Island and ended at the Eko Atlantic Beach.
