Kodavoor Well Collapse: Body of Worker Recovered After Extensive Rescue Operation
Udupi: The body of Ramesh, a construction worker from Koppal, was recovered late Friday night after a grueling six-hour rescue operation following a well collapse in Kodavoor. The incident occurred at a construction site in Uddinahithlu, Malpe, where Ramesh was trapped under debris after the well he was working in caved in.
According to reports, Prabhat Shetty, a resident of Sanur, Karkala, contracted five daily wage laborers, including Ramesh from Koppal district, for well construction work. The site is owned by Chetan, a resident of Madhvanagar. The workers were removing soil from the well when the tragic incident unfolded.
At approximately 5:00 PM on Friday, while Ramesh was excavating soil inside the well, a section of the well’s side wall unexpectedly collapsed, burying him under substantial soil.
Emergency services were immediately alerted, and a coordinated rescue effort was launched. Personnel from the Fire and Emergency Services Department, along with the Eshwar Malpe rescue team, worked tirelessly throughout the evening to locate and extricate Ramesh from the collapsed well. The operation faced significant challenges due to the unstable surrounding soil and the risk of further collapses.
After more than six hours of continuous effort, the rescue team successfully recovered Ramesh’s body late Friday night.
The Malpe Police Station has registered a case, and a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the well collapse is underway. Authorities will examine potential safety violations and determine the cause of the structural failure that led to the construction worker’s tragic death.
