Kundapur: State Govt Committed to Welfare of People of Areas Identified in Kasturirangan Report

Kundapur: The State government is committed to the welfare of the people in the area, which can be seen in the Kasthuri Rangan report, said B Ramanatha Rai Minister of Forest, Ecology and Environment.

He was speaking to the mediapersons at Siddarpur here on Friday, January 18. He said that the notification is issued to as many as six states that fall under the Western Ghats area. However, Kerala has sent the report concerning the interests of the people in the proposed area. He added that the Cabinet subcommittee set up for the project has sent a report to the Central government, which is stronger, than the report submitted by Kerala in terms of the interest of the people in the area. He said that finally the decision is taken up by the Central government after pooling up all the suggestions.

Speaking on Varahi issue, the minister said that his department has cleared the proposal for the irrigation project in 129 hectares. The proposal for another 30 acres of forest land for the irrigation project will be cleared by April. He also said that he will support the cause of the project and if the irrigation department requests for additional land through online process, the same will be followed up on priority basis.
