Let Marriage Be A Choice…

Few headlines I came across in recent newspapers:

“Man hangs wife in front of children as she didnt give him money to buy alcohol”

“Man douses woman for dowry”… “Man stabs wife when she refused to serve him breakfast”..

These horror stories leave one enraged, and extremely sad. Know why? Ask any of these women to leave their husbands and come and none of them would. I have been coaxing my maid to do the same for years now, with little success. Tradition has drilled into us that “The husband is akin to God”, hence its unacceptable to society that women would walk out on their “Gods” , even if they are worse than beasts. It is fine if the man ill treats his wife, yet, let the wife relinquish her married status, and she cant live a decent life after that!

Why do these men get married??? Not for companionship, not because they love their wives, not because they would like to share their life with someone.. then why? Procreation?? money?? Sex? In some sense, all of the above, marriage has become a flourishing business in these days and times.

…Immature and irresponsible actions may sometimes seem funny before marriage, they can become serious pitfalls within the marriage bond….

The question I would like to ask is: Why is it an inevitability for one to get married?? Why cant it be a choice?? Which parent would love to throw their cherished offsprings into this hellhole of a life filled with abuse? Wonder if they ever thought of “wife insurance”, seems to be in order.

If marriages are made in heaven, their maintenance occurs in an earthly setting which requires knowledge, attitude, charracter, patience and commitment to the designer of this relationship. Immature and irresponsible actions may sometimes seem funny before marriage, they can become serious pitfalls within the marriage bond. This is one reason a courtship of at least several months should precede any marriage, since even the most irresponsible and self-centered person can put on a good front for a few weeks or months.

If I could, I would help all these women get a divorce, and go chase their dreams instead of being chained to beasts in “holy matrimony”.
