Malpe-Adi Udupi NH work to begin soon – Raghupathi Bhat

UDUPI: Legislator Raghupathi Bhat said that the national highway widening work would begin from Malpe to Adi Udupi and Adi Udupi to Kadiyali.

Speaking at the City Municipal Council’s general body meeting, the MLA said that Rs 7.64 crore has been earmarked for land acquisition of the stretches on either side which is proposed to be 15 metres each.

The redesigning of the plan has been done and also the required number of signboards and street lights are offered separate break-ups in the allocations of funds. The bridge en route Indrali railway station would also be expanded on the other side. The concretisation work would be taken up wherever the interlocking has sunk. The total project cost is Rs 100 crore. The land mass wherein the land acquisition process was not initiated earlier is being considered in the beginning, he added.

The BJP members raised objection for the involvement of civic labourers to count the number of meals sold at Indira canteen.

They demanded that there is already a shortage of the civic labourers and deputing them for other work is not justifiable.

Environment engineer Raghavendra said that it is a temporary arrangement and would be stopped.

The action was taken in order to stop the wastage of food and to prevent the cooking of excess food, he added.

Forty-seven civic labourers have been appointed directly and 97 are permanent labourers, he said.

The BJP members raised objections charging that there has been partiality in the fund allocation and the Opposition members are deprived of the additional amount allotted to the wards belonging to the ruling party councillors.
