Man arrested after 13 years of crime, released on conditional bail

Puttur: A person has been arrested after 13 years in connection with the transportation of illegal liquor and produced before the court.

The arrested has been identified as Chandappa alias Chennappa Gowda, a resident of Aryapu Puttur.

On December 13, 2003, Chandappa and Umesh were transporting liquor illegally from Karnataka to Kerala. Under the leadership of the then Excise Sub Inspector Savita, a raid was carried out and Umesh and Chandappa were arrested and produced before the court. Later both Umesh and Chandappa were released on bail. Umesh was regularly appearing before the court for the case and subsequently, the court dismissed the case against Umesh.

Meanwhile, Chandappa was absconding and a search warrant was issued against him. Based on the court order, the Puttur town police arrested Chandappa after 13 years from Manjalpadpu and produced him before the court where he was released on conditional bail.

After the crime, to hide his identity, Chandappa has changed his name to Jarappa and he was introducing himself as Jarappa.
