Mandd Sobhann members welcome Goa Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant at Mangaluru International Airport ahead of the First World Konkani Music Mega Convention
Mangaluru: Members of Mandd Sobhann accorded a warm welcome to Goa Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant upon his arrival at Mangaluru International Airport on November 2, ahead of his participation in the First World Konkani Music Mega Convention.

The Chief Minister is scheduled to inaugurate the much-awaited convention at Town Hall, Mangaluru, on November 3. Organised by Mandd Sobhann, the mega event will continue until November 15, bringing together thousands of Konkani music enthusiasts, singers, composers and cultural groups from across India and abroad.
The highlight of the convention will be an ambitious Guinness World Records title attempt for the longest singing marathon by multiple singers. Titled “Konko’nni Niro’ntori – So’msar So’raso’ri” (Eternal Konkani – Unto the World’s End), the marathon will feature an uninterrupted musical journey lasting 12 days, 12 hours and 12 minutes.

The organisers expect more than 6,789 singers to participate, performing over 4,500 Konkani songs composed by more than 250 composers. Around 300 teams are expected to take part, with each team performing for one hour. The organisers have planned the programme to ensure that no singer or song is repeated throughout the marathon.

The convention is a landmark initiative by Mandd Sobhann, established in 1986, which has been at the forefront of promoting the Konkani language, literature, music, theatre and cultural heritage. The event also forms part of the organisation’s Ruby Jubilee celebrations, marking four decades of dedicated service to Konkani culture.

The mega convention will feature a series of musical, cultural and academic programmes, providing a common platform for Konkani-speaking communities across geographical boundaries. Singers and participants from India, Australia, Kuwait, Oman and Qatar are expected to take part in this celebration.
Dedicated to the memory of late Eric Ozario, Gurkar of Mandd Sobhann, the convention seeks to carry forward his vision of preserving and promoting Konkani music and taking it to a global audience.
The arrival of Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant has added significance to the occasion as Mangaluru prepares to welcome artistes and Konkani enthusiasts for an extraordinary celebration of music, language and cultural unity.
With thousands of voices coming together in an uninterrupted musical endeavour, Mangaluru is set to become a global meeting point for Konkani music lovers.
