Mangalore CCB Raids Illegal Hookah Bar in Kankanady, Three Arrested
Mangalore: The Mangalore City Crime Branch (CCB) police have apprehended three individuals following a raid on an illegal hookah bar operating within the parking premises of Mak Mall in Kankanady. The operation, conducted under the jurisdiction of the Mangalore East Police Station, uncovered the illicit establishment operating under the guise of a legitimate cafeteria.
The establishment, identified as “BLACK MOON RESTO CAFÉ,” was found to be allegedly flouting established regulations by operating an illegal hookah bar. Authorities allege that the three individuals, identified as Siddik @ MFC Siddik, Abdul Nasir, and Safwan, secured a business license from the Mangalore City Corporation for a cafeteria for the 2023-24 fiscal year. They are now accused of misusing this license to operate the unauthorized hookah bar, reportedly engaging in activities deemed detrimental to local youth.
According to preliminary investigations, the individuals were allegedly profiting by inducing a drug-induced state in young patrons through the use of hookah. During the raid, law enforcement officers seized a considerable quantity of hookah smoking equipment and a variety of tobacco products.
The operation was conducted under the supervision of ACP Manoj Kumar Nayak of the CCB unit and led by Police Inspector Rafiq K M. The raiding team comprised PSI Sudeep M V, Sharanappa Bhandari, ASI Sujan Shetty, members of the CCB staff, along with PSI Manohar Prasad, and personnel from the Mangalore East Police Station.
Authorities have stated that further investigations are currently underway to ascertain the full scope of the illegal activities and to identify any additional individuals involved. The arrested individuals are currently being questioned as the investigation continues.
