Mangaluru: 22-year-old Engineer, Sole Male Issue of Parents, Dies in Road Collision at Chelairu

Mangaluru: Deepak (22), a resident of Chelairu and a Civil engineer by profession, died on the spot when a bike he was riding was knocked down by an oil tanker at Chelairu cross on Thursday night.

Son of Gopal and Kamalakshi couple living in Chelairu colony, he worked with a private firm in Bijai. He was the only son of his parents and is survived by parents and two sisters.

The Suratkal-Kundapur highway upgradation is in progress. The traffic on the western side of the dual carriage had been blocked. As he stopped his vehicle and was waiting to cross to the other side, the fuel tanker is said to have rammed into his bike. While the bike was not damaged much, the tanker is said to have passed over his body.

Deepak was an active member of the well-known ‘Kalakumbha’ cultural organization in Kulai. He was returning home after taking part in the rehearsal for a cultural programme to veheld on Saturday, January 31. He was also the head of the student wing of Kulal Sangha.

His final rites were held in the crematorium in Suratkal. A case of negligent driving has been registered against the tanker driver in the north police station.
