Mangaluru: The officers of Directorate of Revenue Intelligence have busted another modus operandi of gold smuggling and seized 5 gold bars weighing 583 grams valued at Rs 16,33,520 concealed in the rectum of a passenger on February 3.
The gold was seized from a passenger identified as Kanimkundil Mohammed Sameer, a resident of Udma in Kasargod. He arrived at the airport on Tuesday by Air India Express flight from Dubai.
He was taken into custody and produced before the Court in Mangaluru seeking permission for screening to detect the gold bars. Later he was taken to the Government Wenlock Hospital for scanning, while scanning, the doctors found metal pieces in Sameer’s rectum.
The gold bars were later recovered and investigation is on.
