Mangaluru: BSA Observes ‘Beary Language Day’

Mangaluru: Karnataka Beary Sahitya Academy celebrated “Beary Basero Naal” (Beary Language Day), at T V Ramana Pai Hall, Navabharat Circle, Kodialbail here on October 3.

The programme began with an invocation. Registrar of Karnataka Beary Sahitya Academy Umarabba welcomed the gathering. President of Karnataka Beary Sahitya Academy B A Mohammed Haneef briefed on the programme.

Former Higher Education minister B A Mohiddin inaugurated the programme. MLA J R Lobo inaugurated the photo exhibition. Addressing the gathering Lobo said, “If any language should be retained we need to put our efforts and make every child to speak their respective languages. In olden days there were kings but now the academies are working hard to retain the languages”.

He further said that coastal Karnataka is very rich in languages. Every language has its own identity. Language is a medium to express our feelings. We have to respect other languages without discriminating. Tulu, Kannada, Beary and Konkani Sahitya Academies are working hard to retain the language without any complaints even though the government is providing very little grant. All the academies are utilizing the sanctioned funds for the growth of the academies. He congratulated the Beary academy and the president for celebrating the Beary language day.

Raghunath Shenoy Bajpe, Babu Shetty Kariangala and Padma Moolya were felicitated by the guests on the occasion.

Retired principal of Mangalore university college Satyanarayan Mallipatna delivered the keynote address. District minister in-charge B Ramanath Rai, MLC Ivan D’Souza, MLA Moideen Bava, Konkani Sahitya Academy president Roy Castelino, Tulu Sahitya academy president Janaki Brahmavar and others were also present.
