A team of delegates have arrived from China to impart training on the processing of Arecanut. Campco staff will be trained at Puttur and Shivamogga.

He further said that the said Chinese company initially demanded for 3200 qt.lsof processed arecanut. “KOU WEI WANG’s mouth freshener, prepared from tender arecanut, has established its brand in China and stands in number one position. In Hunan Province of China, there are more than 10 companies producing mouth fresheners. There is good demand in China for the mouth freshener derived from tender arecanut. At present, China is producing around 12000 MTs of arecanut, which falls short of their consumption. If the initial stage of business succeeds, there is a scope for large quantities of export. The Chinese company is ready to pay Rs 160 per kg for dry arecanut. We will export 20 ft containers with approximately 10 tonnes of arecanut.”

At present, the team is visiting Puttur and Shivamogga to check the processing machinery and see that it suits their requirements. “If the deal is made, arecanutgrowers will be benefited. The delegates have brought samples of their present mouth freshener, which is sold for Rs 10 in China. If there is a demand in our district, the Chinese company is ready to send their product to Campco. In China, they have shortage of arecanut and need 3200 tonnes. If the deal will be done, we will arrange the export of arecanut to China.”

Vice president of CAMPCO K Satheeshchandra Bhandary, Managing DirectorSuresh Bhandary, Pramod Kumar and others were also present.
