Mangaluru: DC Ibrahim Urges Parents Not to stand in Long Queue for Caste and Income Certificate

Mangaluru: The Deputy Commissioner, A B Ibrahim, held a press meet at the DC office here, on July 9.

Addressing the mediapersons, DC Ibrahim said that people stand in a long queue to get the caste and income certificates, which has created a frenzy atmosphere. “In the district, there are 17 centres. In all the Taluk offices, people can apply for the caste and income certificates. Some women wearing burkha and others holding their children stand in a long queue to apply for the caste and income certificates. The income and caste certificates of the students have been digitized and they are available online. But the school authorities are insisting the students to get the caste and income certificate for scholarship. In 2014, we have issued 2,03,886 caste and income certificates to the students. This year, we have already issued 87,482 certificates.”

He also said that once the income and caste certificate is issued, it will be valid for 5 years and for the SC/ST, it is permanent. “The department has taken steps to regularize the caste and income certificate, digitize them and make them available through schools. The parents are not aware of the facilities. From the past 2 to 3 weeks, people rush to the Atalji Janasneha Kendra to apply for the caste and income certificates.”

To apply for the minority merit cum means scholarship, the last day is September 30 and to renew it, the last date is November 15. To apply for the minority scholarship, the last date is September 15 and the last date for renewal is October 10. To apply scholarship from the Social Welfare Department for below 10th standard students, the last date will be on 31 August and for SSLC and above the date is not yet finalized. For scholarship from Backward class to the Welfare Department, the last date will be 31 July. For PUC and above, the date has not yet been finalized.

DC Ibrahim has urged parents not to panic or stand in long queues in front of Atalji Janasneha Kendra to apply for the caste and income certificates. He also assured of providing caste and income certificates to all the applicants within a week.
