Mangaluru: DK Congress Commemorates Rajiv Gandhi’s and Devaraj Urs Birth Anniversary

Mangaluru: The district Congress commemorated the birth anniversaries of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi and Chief Minister of Karnataka Devaraj Urs, at the party office here on August 20.

The district minister in-charge Ramanath Rai garlanded the portraits of Rajiv Gandhi and Devaraj Urs.

Addressing the party workers Ramanath Rai said that Rajiv Gandhi brought a progressive vision which attracted the youth and women into politics. Rajiv Gandhi is the one who extended the dominance in the political sphere. He also announced the National Policy on Education to modernise and expand higher education in the country.

He further said that because of Devaraj Urs the Zamindar system has been erased. Earlier farmers were treated as bonded labourers, his land reforms which led in erasing the Zamindar system were applauded by the people. Thus the farmers afforded self-respect and a sense of dignity. Devaraj Urs’s land reforms were the first step in equalizing land distribution throughout the state. He provided Shelter for migrant workers and electricity in every house in the state.

Devaraj Urs is remembered for his land reformation and lessening the gap between the landlords and bonded labourers.

President of Youth Congress Mithun Rai, Sashidhar Hegde and others were also present.
