Mangaluru: Group Assaults Five youth in Manchur – Hospitalized

Mangaluru:  Five youth were assaulted by a group with sharp weapons atMunchur, Suratkal here on June 30.

Three of the injured youth have been identified as Toufiq (23), a resident ofKrishanpura, Siraj (23) from Fourth Block Krishnapura and Ansaar (20) from Katipalla.

According to the injured, at around 6 pm, the five youth were on their way back home after finishing their work. When all of a sudden, it started to rain. They stopped their motorbikes and took cover near a shop on the side of the road. Suddenly, a group of about 15 persons came in bikes and a car with machetes, knifes, wooden clubs and rods, and started to assault them. When they ran for their life, they were chased by the group and assaulted again.

A person from the area said that every year during the time of Ramadan, Muslims in the area face such problems. The group, while assaulting the youth, questioned them, “Why are you people here?”.

Speaking to mangalorean.com, a friend of a victim said, “We are in the Ramadan season and in Suratkal, some people are not allowing us to celebrate Ramadan peacefully. They want to create communal violence while we are observing Ramadan peacefully.

The group also destroyed two mobiles and looted Rs 27,000 cash from the victims.

A case has been registered in the Suratkal Police Station.
