Mangaluru: Minister Sorake Lays Foundation Stone for Musical Fountain at Kadri Park

Mangaluru: The Minister for Urban Development, Vinay Kumar Sorake, laid the foundation stone for the Musical fountain by unveiling the plaque at the Deer Park Kadri here, on March 21.

The District Minister in-charge, Ramanath Rai, laid a foundation stone for the housing colony for staff of Special Police Squad by unveiling the plaque at the Kadri park.

The programme began with an invocation. MUDA chairman Ibrahim Kodijal welcomed the gathering. Addressing the gathering, Vinay Kumar Sorake said that Mangaluru is a reputed city in the state. “It is known as the port city having the airport and sea port, it is the second fastest growing city in the state. For the morning walkers and joggers, there was a demand for the musical fountain. Building a musical fountain in Kadri park was the dream of MLA J R Lobo who was striving hard to grant this project through MUDA. We have collected Rs 5 crore for this project as a special fund. After the Congress came to power in the state, for the development of Dakshina Kannada district, Rs 990 crores has been granted through various schemes. Ullal and Puttur has been included to Mangaluru City Corporation. To avoid drinking water problem, we have sanctioned Rs 75 crore for the second phase of Thumbay vented dam project.”

He also said that the construction of the compound wall, security room and gate, projector room, water pond, ground level water storage tank, seating arrangement at the Children’s park, pathway, and 15 shops will be come under this project at a cost of Rs 1.78 crore. Supply, installation and testing of the musical dancing fountain with laser and video projection at the park will be done at the cost of Rs 2.09 crore and the electrification of the park with generator will cost Rs 78 lakh. The work will be completed before November 2015.

He further said that Akrama Sakrama will come into force. “The government will also have a joint venture with the farmers on 50-50 basis, earlier it was 60-40%. The government will develop the land on 50-50 basis and gave it to the farmers for cultivation.”

He said that a proposal had been sent to the union government to make Mangaluru a smart city and the government has accepted our proposal. In the budget, under the port development projects, Mangaluru has been included to be made a smart city.

Ramanath Rai speaking on the occasion said that to make any city better, we need to give importance to the beautification of the city along with development schemes. “When we give importance to the beautification of the city, we can find subsequent development in the city. Beautification and cleanliness play an important role in the development of the city.” He further said that the musical fountain will be an added beauty to Mangaluru city.

A commercial complex will be built where the present vendors will be accommodated. They will be provided shops in the complex. To maintain the park, revenue will be generated by charging entry fee for the park and by rent from the commercial complex. Proper parking on the side of the roads and footpath will be made, so that the visitors to the park will not face any problems.

Health and Family welfare minister U T Khader, MLA J R Lobo, MLA MOideen Bava, Deputy Commissioner A B Ibrahim, MLC Ivan D’Souza, Mangaluru City Corporation Commissioner Hephsiba Rani Korlapati, Mayor Jacintha Alfred, deputy Mayor Purushotham Chitrapura, Corporators Roopa D Bangera and Akhila Alva were also present.
