Mangaluru: District President of JD(S), B Mohammed Kunhi held a press meet at Hotel Woodlands here, on December 28.

Speaking to the mediapersons, Kunhi alleged that Congress party had bribed the voters in Puttur, Belthangady and Bantwal constituencies to secure votes for Prathapchandra Shetty, the candidate fielded by them in the MLC election. “This is the first time that it has happened in Dakshina Kannada district,” he said.

He said that some voters were bribed to the tune of Rs 50000. “The money they spend on voters comes as a bribe from sand mafia which is rampant in the district,” he added. The JD(S) party had already registered a complaint with the Election Commission in this regard.

“When the screening of ‘Dilwale’ movie was stopped by Bajrang Dal, the police were just mere spectators. When one inspector was sent on leave by the police commissioner Bajrang Dal made mockery of the administration and claimed that the inspector was on a forced leave. Is the government leading us or are we being lead by Bajrang Dal?” Kunhi said, questioning the inability of the government to control the policing done by the outfit.

“These elements have come up under the present Congress government in the state. People are scared to go out from the safety of their homes. This didn’t happen when BJP government was ruling,” Kunhi added.

Kunhi further said, “Taluk and Zilla Panchayat elections will be announced on 10-11 January 2016. Apart from Congress and BJP party, all the other parties have formed a coalition and have decided to contest from all constituencies.”

Corporator Azeez Kudroli, Gopal Krishna Attavar and others were also present.
