Speaking to Mangalorean.com, Dr Asha Jyothi Rai, President of AYUSH Habba and AYUSH Foundation, said, “AYUSH stands for Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy. All these, other than homeopathy, were widely in use for more than 1000 years. But now, they are not preferred to the same extent. The aim of AYUSH Habba is to introduce these medicines to the people of our district. In Sanskrit, ‘Swathasya Swasthya Rakshanam’ means ‘Protecting the health of the healthy’ and AYUSH helps us remain healthy. It should be a way of life.”

Secretary of AYUSH Habba, Dr Mohammed Iqbal speaking to Mangalorean.com said that there were about 1000 practitioners of AYUSH in Udupi and Dakshina Kannada districts. The health of the rural population is maintained by AYUSH. “But AYUSH is not popular in our district, so we aim to popularize it with the AYUSH Habba. It will be held in Pilikula where visitors will get knowledge, food, health cards, beauty therapy, Naturopathy and entertainment from Alva’s College troupe and Russian Academy,” he added.

More than 25000 people are expected to visit AYUSH Habba each day. After the procession, a yoga session was held at Nehru Maidan led by Master Yogish. Participants performed Tadasana, Vakrasana, Ardha Chakrasana, Paada Hasthasana, Ardha Kati, Badhha Konaasana, Padhmasana, Vajrasana, Ardha Ushtrasana, Pavana Mukhthaasana, Shavasana, Naadi Shudhhi Praanayama, Bhramari, Sarala Dhyaana and Shaanthi Manthra.
