Mangaluru: The second day of the 4-day event began with the Mens Discus Throw at the Mangala Stadium here, on May 2. The second event of the day was 110 m Mens hurdles.

The Womens 20km Race Walking Finals saw Deepamale Devi from Karnataka clench the gold medal. Sandeep Kaur (PUN) came second, followed by Priyanka (UP).

Deepamale Devi, the gold medal winner in the Womens 20km Race Walking, completed the race in a time of 1:44:29. “I am satisfied with my performance. The accommodations here are good. There were no difficulties and I am happy to be in Mangalore.”

International coach Dr. R Gandhi, Sports Authority of India (SAI) Bangalore speaking to mangalorean.com said that three of his athletes have already qualified for the Rio olympics. “We will be going for the World championship this year. We are very close to world class medals. We will do our best.” Dr. R Gandhi has also trained athletes for the London Olympics.
