Mangaluru: Two Brothers Drown in Adyapady Dam, Untraced

Mangaluru: Sandeep (28) and Sandesh (26), two brothers from Shivanagara in Moodushedde on the outskirts, had been to the Adyapady dam area on Thursday, since there was a shutdown in protest against Yettinahole project.

They were accompanied by a friend from Pumpwell, who was their colleague in their painting profession. The purpose of going there was to pick clams, a popular delicious shellfish, locally known as ‘maruvayi’.

The brothers went over a mound of sand extracted from the dam catchment. They are said to have suddenly slipped from the loose, wet sand into the deep water and disappeared. The incident took place around 4 pm.

Their friend who stayed away called for help but there was nobody around. Police and fire brigade were called for. They got into a search operation. But because it had already got dark, the efforts were suspended, to be resumed on Friday morning.
