Mangaluru: Two Persons Arrested by CCB Police in Fake Certificate Case

Mangaluru: A group of youth who were involved in fake certificate scam were nabbed by the CCB Police at Pumpwell here on February 9.

The arrested have been identified as Askan Sheikh (22), a resident of Chembugudde,Permannur and Gautham R (32) from Raikatte Kuloor.

The accused were issuing fake degree and post graduation certificates of various universities such as the Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar University Agra, Alpha Institute of management and technology Science, VTU Belgaum, Shridhar University Pilani Rajasthan, Techno Globe University Shillog, Meghalaya; Karnataka State Open University; Indira Gandhi Institute of Technology and Management; Kumar BhaskerVarma Sanskrit and Ancient studies University Nalbavi Assam; All India Higher Education Board, Mangalore Institute of management and engineering and Alpha Institute of management and Technology Science Bengaluru.

The accused were issuing fake degree certificates to Students and unemployed persons within a week. For SSLC and PUC certificates the accused were charging Rs 10,000. for the degree and diploma certificate, Rs 35,000 and for MBA certificate Rs 45,000. The accused were running a school named “Mangalore Public school” where they were issuing fake 10th standard certificates. There is a record that more than 150 students have been issued SSLC/PUC/Degree/Diploma/B Tech certificates.

Chandra Sekhar further said that one of the accused Askan started the “MangaloreInstitute of Management and Engineering” in June 2015. The accused Askan has completed his Mechanical engineering and later started the above institution in 2015 but the institute has not been recognized by any University. Another accused Gautam is a MCom graduate and was into marketing. Later he left his job and joined Askan in issuing fake certificates.

CCB police have seized 3 laptops, 18 fake seals, fake certificates, printer, papers, holograms, stickers and mobile phones.

Under the able guidance of Police commissioner Chandra Sekhar, DCP Crime DrSanjeev Patil, DCP law and order Shanthraju, the CCB police inspector Valentine along with PSI Shyam Sundar and team carried the operation.
