Mangaluru: Senior Congress leader Janardhan Poojary held a press meet at the District Congress Office here, on February 1.

Addressing the mediapersons. Poojary accused Hemanath Shetty of trying to divide the party. “Hemanath Shetty along with few others formed Bharatiya Hindu Parishat in Puttur, which is against the Congress party’s principles. If he is a real Congress worker, he would not have formed such an organization which is an insult for the freedom fighters. Congress is a secular party and forming such organization will send a wrong message to the people.”

Poojary further said, “Modi is proclaiming to make India a Congress free country. Being in the party, we can support all religions; we need not make another organization for that. All of the congress leaders go to the temples, churches and mosques to take part in their programmes, but we did not have any thoughts of forming any organization only for Hindus.”

He also said that in the party, some people are there only for the power and post. “They do not know the principles of the party. We need to read and understand the constitution,” he said.

When asked about the reaction of the Health minister U T Khader on the formation BHP, Poojary said, “Khader wants only vote and power. For him, party and country is not important”. When asked about Vijaynath Shetty presiding over Hindu Samajotsava, Poojary said, “Let Vijayanath deliver his speech in the programme after which I will comment.”

While concluding Poojary said that the Sangh Parivar is creating misunderstanding and dividing the people. “Forming the BHP will be equal to it and it is against the principles and philosophy of the Congress party.”
Mayor Mahabala Marla, deputy Mayor Kavitha, Congress leaders P V Mohan,Kallige Taranath Shetty, Kripa Alva, Arun Coelho and others were also present.
