Mangaluru: Janardhan Poojary held a press meet at the District Congress Office here, on January 9.

Speaking to the mediapersons, Poojary said, “The Yettinahole project is based on lies and deceits. It violates IPC Sections 463 for forgery, 464 for false statements, 468 for forgery with purpose of cheating and criminal breach of trust.”

Poojary said that the Chief Minister had brought forward an array of people friendly schemes, but it seemed that he was being misled now. The reports by different experts suggested varying yields under the Yettinahole project. “The project report claims to harness 24 TMC of water from Yettinahole but another expert says that not even 10 TMC of water is available in Yettinahole. This is a huge scandal,” he added.

“The Chief Minister has a ‘golden opportunity’ to be the best chief minister the state has ever got. I urge the Chief Minister to set up an enquiry commission consisting of a Supreme Court judge to look into the matter and investigate the truth,” Poojary said.

Poojary questioned the role of the Former Chief Minister, Sadananda Gowda. He said, “When Sadanada Gowda sanctioned Rs 13000 crore project, did he do so with his eyes closed? Why didn’t he study the reports and investigate?” He said that experts had predicted the yield based on rainfall. “How can anyone predict constant rainfall in the future? Did they think that the people of the region are dumb?” he asked.

When asked his opinion about bandhs, Poojary said, “I am against bandhs and it is foolish to believe that results can be obtained by calling bandhs. The peaceful agitation done by the people of the district over the Yettinahole project should be appreciated by the government.”
