Located in Manjeshwar in Kerala’s Kasaragod district, close to the Karnataka border, Srimath Anantheshwar Temple is regarded as one of the oldest existing temples associated with the Gowda Saraswat Brahmin community. According to the temple’s historical records, its documented history dates back to the eighth century AD. The temple holds a special place in the religious and cultural life of GSB devotees, with Lord Anantheshwara and Lord Bhadra Narasimha closely associated with its religious traditions.
Manjeshwar Shashti Mahotsava is one of the most important annual religious celebrations at the temple. Every year, large numbers of devotees travel to Manjeshwar from Mangaluru, various parts of Kerala and Karnataka, and other parts of the country to participate in the festivities and seek the blessings of the deities. Thousands of devotees gather for this significant occasion, making it an important religious and cultural event for the GSB community.
Extensive arrangements are being made for the forthcoming Shashti Mahotsava. Preparations are under way to welcome the large number of devotees expected to attend and ensure the smooth conduct of the various religious ceremonies and traditional programmes. As in previous years, the festival is expected to draw devotees from across the country.
The traditional chariot procession is one of the major attractions of the Shashti Mahotsava. The religious rituals, traditional observances, and enthusiastic participation of devotees make the festival an integral part of the heritage of the Manjeshwar temple. For many families, attending this annual celebration is also a longstanding religious and cultural tradition.
